Swept Away: A True Story of Grief & Acceptance by Becky Graff chronicles her family’s outdoor lifestyle before and during early 2020, sharing milestones like her daughters learning to ride bikes and homeschooling during the pandemic. On a camping trip at Little Wild Horse Canyon, a sudden storm causes a flash flood that sweeps Becky and her two daughters downstream. Becky survives with severe injuries, but tragically loses McKinzley and Ellie, who both perished. The memoir details Becky’s harrowing struggle for survival, emergency medical care, and the family’s devastating search efforts. It follows their painful journey through funerals, healing, and honoring their daughters with personalized memorials. Becky shares the physical and emotional hurdles of recovery, coping with loss, and gradually rebuilding life while holding onto memories and love.

Becky Graff’s Swept Away is an intensely personal memoir that chronicles the devastating loss of her children in a tragic flood. Becky's writing is raw, unflinching, and deeply heartfelt, capturing the sorrow and enduring pain of a parent facing unimaginable grief. Becky's stark honesty allows readers to experience the quiet, unbearable weight of loss alongside a remarkable push toward living the life she has now as fully as possible. The strength and resilience required for this transcends the page and I was completely drawn into her journey to confront such an overwhelming reality. Central to this are Becky and Tim's embracing of faith which features heavily. Overall, this is a look at what resilience looks like, what life after death looks like, and is a deeply moving and important work. Very highly recommended.
