Lexi the Butterfly by Sherri Crandall follows Jojo, a little hawk, and how he came to meet his new sister. While flying home from school with his two friends, Jojo spots a beautiful purple butterfly. It turns out the butterfly, Lexi, was separated from her mother during a storm and is lost. Jojo and his family take Lexi in, and she becomes part of their family despite others finding it strange that large birds would take in such a tiny creature.

Lexi the Butterfly by Sherri Crandall is a beautiful and sweet story about a lost little butterfly who gets adopted by a family of hawks. At its core, this book celebrates the idea that love makes a family, no matter how that family comes together. Whether a family is built through birth, adoption, or chosen bonds, Lexi the Butterfly delivers a universal message that all children can understand and embrace. I think this story and the message behind it are so meaningful. The narrative's warmth and inclusivity will make it a comforting read for children across all family structures. This book is perfect for storytime or quiet reflection, and is more than just a beautiful tale; it’s a meaningful conversation starter about diversity, kindness, and the many ways love can shape our lives. The beautiful and colourful illustrations by Beth Snider also make it perfect for younger readers, although I think it could appeal to a variety of children. Overall, I think this picture book is a must-have addition to any child’s bookshelf and any classroom.

Lexi the Butterfly is a heartfelt children's book written by Sherri Crandall and beautifully illustrated by Beth Snider. The story is narrated by Jo Jo, a young hawk who is out playing with his two friends, Taylor the turtle and Spencer the Sparrow. They stumble upon Lexi, a small purple butterfly who is frightened and alone. Lexi got separated from her mother during a terrible storm, and now she's lost. Jo Jo and his friends immediately seek guidance from their wise mayor, an owl named Rusty. The mayor thoughtfully suggests that Jo Jo and his family take care of Lexi, while he and a few others engage in a search for Lexi's mother. Meanwhile, Jo Jo's family welcomes little Lexi into their lives (and home) with loving and open hearts. Along the way, Lexi learns that family isn't just about who you are born to, but who chooses to love and care for you.

Lexi the Butterfly by Sherri Crandall is an uplifting tale about family, love, compassion, new beginnings, and adoption. The writing is accessible and inviting. The story seamlessly incorporates warmth and charm throughout its pages. It will provide young readers with reassurance and solace as they navigate significant life changes, such as the adoption process and the search for acceptance. I adored every character in this heartwarming tale. They are all caring and easy for children to identify with. Jo Jo is a kind and dependable big brother, and Lexi is a delicate but brave little butterfly. Children who may feel uncertain about where they belong will relate to Lexi. Supporting characters—such as Jo Jo's parents and Rusty—enhance the story with love and support from an adult's perspective. Overall, Lexi the Butterfly is an endearing tale about kindness, empathy, and found family that will capture the hearts of readers, both young and old alike.

Lexi the Butterfly is a heartwarming children's picture book written by Sherri Crandall, featuring illustrations by Beth Snider. The story follows Jo Jo, a young hawk who has a butterfly for a sister. Jo Jo loves his life near Crystal Lake, surrounded by beautiful flower meadows. He enjoys playing with his friends Spencer the sparrow and Taylor the turtle, and they always travel home from school together. One fateful day, Jo Jo hears a sound coming from the meadows and is shocked to discover Lexi, a purple butterfly with yellow spots. He immediately realizes that she is far from home, as the butterflies in their meadow are all white. Lexi had been separated from her mother during a storm and doesn't know how to find her. Jo Jo shows Lexi kindness, welcoming her into his home and trying to help her find her way back to her family. However, destiny has other plans, as the two become siblings, looking forward to many adventures together.

The book also highlights the beauty of nature and the creatures in it. Sherri Crandall brings the story to life with a calm narrative that includes engaging elements. I love how Jo Jo directly addresses readers, welcoming them to his beautiful home. The illustrations are enchanting, depicting the vibrant landscape and lush greenery of the meadows. The characters are colorful and have distinct features that make them utterly adorable. This story encourages open discussions between parents and children about adoption and foster care. I enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend sharing it with your kids to teach them about kindness, inclusivity, and help young readers develop empathy and a welcoming attitude toward others.
