Lily’s dream is to be a fairy. Can you imagine a beaver as a fairy? In Zuzana Svobodová’s Lily of the Valley, Lily listens intently to Grandma’s charming stories about fairies. They’re always doing good and helping others. Grandma tells Lily: “You can be whoever you want. You can reach everything you want. No one else is shaping your future path. Only you create it. You choose your own journey.” Lily’s not so sure how that’s going to happen. After a night’s storm, Lily rescues her friend, Sylvia the mouse, whose bridge over the creek in front of her house was washed away. What does Lily do? She rebuilds the bridge and is rewarded with some of Sylvia’s fine baking. Lily fills her day helping others and when she recalls her deeds that evening, Grandma tells her that Lily is a fairy, because Lily has done good deeds and helped others just like a fairy would do.
Zuzana Svobodová’s picture book, Lily of the Valley: A Truly Unusual Fairy, is another book in the Story of the Valley series. This is a story that will appeal to all ages. Beautifully told and presented. Loved it!
