When Lieutenant Lily Starling, of the United Earth Union fleet, is summoned by Caris to her lab on Bimini, she is shocked by Caris’ revelation about the dark truth behind the planet’s renewal cycle. Shortly after, through a tip from Datch’s digital backup, Lily heads to Bimara to investigate Ronin’s life essence machine, stop him from using it, and destroy it. While she successfully stops Ronin, the Union hijacks her plan to destroy the machine by seizing it. It is then that she learns of a lethal plague sweeping through the Nullstorm region and of the Union's assignment for her to distribute vaccines to the region. However, as she takes on her assignment, she notices strange sequences involved with the vaccine supply. She is also curious about her friend Trish’s whereabouts. As she launches an investigation into both, she is about to uncover an insidious, surgically calculated interplanetary conspiracy. Find out how it all goes down in Lily Starling and the Death Machine: Book 3 in the Lily Starling Series by Christian Hurst.
If you are looking for a young adult dystopian/sci-fi thriller flavored with high-octane action, high-stakes drama, adventure, conspiracy, suspense, and plot twists, Lily Starling and the Death Machine by Christian Hurst is a perfect pick. The gritty prose moves at a dynamic pace, immersing readers in the day-to-day activities of the cast and bursts of action. The epic, expansive world-building dropped me right in the middle of the distinct settings. Whether I was watching Lily run for her life as mercenaries were hot on her heels, or following her through the hidden, grimy, underground settlements, it felt like I was in the scenes, experiencing every moment. The exciting cast and the uniquely crafted scenes made each turn of the page enthralling. As Lily travels the cosmos hunting for answers to her investigation, she must not only navigate violence, murder, captivity, psychological turmoil, and political extremism, but also learn where to put her trust. The story explores themes of corruption, corporate greed, systemic manipulation, survival, betrayal, and much more. This pageturner is an incredible third installment in the Lily Starling Series.
