In Limitless Me, Brittany Scott introduces us to Faye. She wants to be a Broadway star one day, but she has a problem. Although Faye likes herself, she fears rejection. When challenged with auditioning for the school play or presenting her science project, she listens to the voices in her head telling her she is not good enough. Her insecurity affects all her relationships, and her fear of rejection lets her deny who she is and conform to please others. But one night, Faye dreams she is caught and put in a box. She must choose to stay captured out of fear or find the courage to break free. Faye's choice to break free shows her she doesn't have to hide who she is but has limitless opportunities to succeed if she believes in herself.
I love how Brittany Scott uses a rhyming style to take you through the story. I could identify with Faye's struggle with insecurity and fear of rejection. The repetition of specific phrases stresses Faye's feelings of shame when listening to the voices in her head telling her she is not good enough, causing her to fail. Her insecurity is so intense that she misses the advice from her parents and teacher on how to prevail. Brittany Scott shows how insecurity leads to loneliness and how children can discover the Limitless Me within. At the end of the book, the reflection questions help parents talk to their children about failure and how their thoughts and what they say about themselves can affect their lives.
