Author Biography

Mike Darcy is the debut author of the Little Joe series, as such it is not a series yet, but trust him, there is more than one book. He spent the better part of his youth wandering the forest, subsisting on foraging wild berries and the generosity of concerned woodland creatures. He holds degrees in Digital Forensics, Applied Mathematics, and a Masters in Public Administration. Obviously, natural foundations to tales about adventurous, talking animals.
He lives in Southern New Hampshire with his family of super geniuses, where he serves as a bed for their adopted cat. He can be seen around town most days when his Norwegian Elkhound takes him for his daily proscribed walks.
Footnote: While he was raised in a barn he did not, nor has he ever claimed to have walked uphill to school both ways in the snow. It was uphill one way then a sled ride home.

Little Joe and the Big City by author Mike Darcy follows the adventures of a curious puppy, Little Joe, as he navigates a thrilling trip from his country farm to the bustling city. Overwhelmed by new sights and sounds, he escapes from a fenced yard, chasing pigeons and squirrels. Lost and scared, he’s rescued by a kind animal control worker and taken to a shelter. Emotions grow deeper when he meets Mura, a lonely cat at the animal shelter. When Anna, his owner, finds him, Little Joe’s excitement helps her aunt notice Mura, leading to her adoption. Back at the house, Little Joe and Mura snuggle up with Anna, dreaming of new adventures.

This book moved me to tears! The contrast between the serene countryside and the chaotic city sets a relatable stage for Little Joe’s escapades. When he slips through a fence, his curiosity leads him into a world of new encounters—pigeons, squirrels, and noisy streets. The friendship between Little Joe and Mura adds a touching layer, teaching empathy and the value of friendship. The climax, where Little Joe cleverly helps Mura find a home, is both satisfying and uplifting. It teaches the importance of kindness and belonging. The illustrations are adorable. Mr. Darcy’s storytelling, enhanced by Tincho Schmidt’s brilliant artwork, creates a refreshing read for children and families. The book’s cozy yet adventurous tone, paired with its meaningful message, makes it a standout. Little Joe and the Big City is a delightful blend of fun, suspense, and heart, perfect for young animal lovers. As a teacher and author, I highly recommend this book and eagerly await more of Little Joe’s adventures!
