Little Joe and the Big Rain, written by Mike Darcy and illustrated by Tincho Schmidt, is a captivating children’s book about a little dog named Joe and his adventures in the area around his house. Little Joe is off to Hopper the frog's house for some fly soup. When it starts to rain, they need to find shelter. Little Joe is a curious little dog who wants to sniff everything everywhere. Before long, his curiosity gets them both lost. This is when they meet a bear named Roxy. When Hopper and Little Joe help Roxy with an irritating problem, she invites them in for tea. With Roxy's help, Little Joe and Hopper find their way home, and Little Joe can finally tell his owner about his adventure.
Little Joe and the Big Rain is an enchanting story that will excite any child who reads it. Mike Darcy's story perfectly narrates a little dog's adventures and Tincho Schmidt’s illustrations bring the story together perfectly. The importance of communication is brought to the young reader's attention in a lovely way. Children will learn the importance of it while enjoying the adventures in which Little Joe finds himself. But more than that, the story also emphasizes the role of friendship in Little Joe's adventures, showing how mutual support and cooperation can lead to success. I loved reading about this little dog. Animals are unforgettable characters in children’s books, and I believe every child who reads about Little Joe will grow as a person.
