In Danny C. Estes' novel, "Lord Athina", Jim Sanders takes wise precautions and refuses to live in fear amidst New York street gangs, construction, and the greedy politicians. The son of a city planning official, Jim wants to get away from his stressful life and decides to move to Los Angeles to build his own construction company, only to face wrongful death lawsuits. Jim eventually lost everything and just when he is ready to save his failing company, Jim is killed in a car accident. Strangely, Jim wakes back on earth in the medieval time, in the body of a sixteen-year-old girl, as a mother to a newborn baby and heir to a citadel. With only his wits and a devoted nursemaid, Jim has to surmount the political realities in this location and era.

The writing style of Danny C. Estes truly deserve our admiration and applause. Here is a well-crafted book, which is uniquely original. It takes us to a place and time we have never known existed. Yes, this is a fantasy novel after all. There is a message in this medieval plot somewhere that you will find out yourself. I highly recommend "Lord Athina" as it is a highly enjoyable book. It is amazing how the author uses fantasy as a tool in his novel to create a story that we will love to read again and again. The transition from reality to fantasy is seamless so that you will never get lost in translation in the process. If you love fantasy novels, this is a welcome addition to your must-read collection!
