"Lord’s Love: Cottonwood Series Book 2" by Sophie Dawson is a Christian themed, historical fiction book. The year is 1875 and Magdelina (Maggie) Taylor has moved into her own apartment breaking her domineering mother’s heart by leaving home. Sinjon Lytton is a spoiled, rich Lord forced by his father to leave England, go to Cottonwood and learn to be a man or face debtor’s prison. Maggie is guided by her love of God. Sinjon is guided by his love for Maggie. "Lord’s Love" portrays the battle of faith, the strength of love and a message of hope as we share in the ups, downs and confusion of the love Sinjon knows he feels for Maggie and the concerns Maggie has about loving Sinjon. A buggy accident on a stormy day brings it all together. The supporting characters also add depth to the story. Beulah, Maggie’s mom, wants nothing more than to see her baby daughter happily married to a man of importance. Eustace, Maggie’s dad, wants nothing more than his daughter to be happy and trying to keep his wife in line and working at his bank. We cannot help but like the many people we meet who live and work in Cottonwood.
Sophie Dawson has written a wonderful book. "Lord’s Love" touches the reader emotionally and it bound me to the characters in a very positive way. It was impossible not to root for Sinjon and Maggie. "Lord’s Love" was good reading as a historical fiction but had the added bonus of following the path of God. I have just found another author to add to my list of favorites. This book is a winner!
