Growing up in an unpredictable environment, Kia was raised by a hardworking black dad and an unstable Chinese mother, whose ever-changing mood showed her that love can never be perfect. In Ajah, who was a musician providing her with security, comfort, and attention, she found a soulmate at once. But as they started relying on each other, fear began to intervene in their relationship. Things get even more complicated when Kia’s mother is hospitalized, and Kia has to face her past.
Loved in Chaos is a moving story that touches on issues like belonging, love, survival, and healing. The story covers Kia’s childhood, her relationship, and her growth. Long Temple has written about characters that readers can easily relate to: people facing mental instability, family members who have to love them through the pain, and children who do not know how to handle an ever-changing situation. Kia’s life was always about survival, always morphing into different characters, but she becomes herself when she opens up to Ajah and learns to understand and accept herself. She learns love is not just endurance or presence but also choice. The story deeply explores art, space, and how love can coexist with damage, inconsistency, and pain. This is a perfect read for anyone looking for a book about reclaiming their identity and finding love while on their healing journey.
