Lucky Charms, or just Lucky for short, is a fun-loving dog who makes friends easily. She lives with a family in the city, a family which includes a cat named Hershey Kisses, Hershey for short. The family is going into the Adirondacks for a camping adventure. Lucky’s a little worried about going to a strange place where there are lots of wild animals. Her neighborhood friends come to see her off and wish her a grand adventure, assuring her that she’s a friendly dog and she’ll make friends easily. Once in the woods, Lucky and Hershey are allowed to go exploring and they meet all kinds of wild animals who, at first, are rather standoffish. But Lucky, with all her charms, wins them over and they have a grand time together.
Elizabeth Macy’s picture book story, Lucky’s Adventure in the Great Outdoors, is a sweet story about accepting change, making new friends, and working as a team – all good lessons for young readers. This is the third book in the Lucky the rescue dog series and it follows an adventurous plot full of fun and excitement. The animal characters are well developed as they learn together how to help each other, how to be kind to one another, how to show gratitude and so much more. The colorful illustrations help move this story along as the growing number and different varieties of animals add to the panorama of friendship. This book is a fun read, simple and charming, and packed with valuable lessons for young readers.
