Mark of Stars is the first book in The Chronicles of Talahm series by Colleen Mitchell. Eighteen-year-old high schooler Emma Jackman's life turns upside down when she learns that she is the Seventh Sorceress of Talahm. Meanwhile, her older brother Luke already possesses his father Tomas Artair's Seer abilities and foresees a Vision showcasing destruction rained upon the city of Camelot and the death of Tomas. The two siblings, alongside Emma's best friend, Bethany, travel to the world of Talahm, and soon, the three of them reunite with Tomas. However, when assassins belonging to the Wraith of Valona executed Prince Adam, chaos ensued. Emma and her Sentinel Luke must now prevent a deadly curse from swallowing the lives of Camelot's inhabitants and prevent their father's death. But a traitor in their midst makes things complicated.
Fantasy lovers rejoice, for, with Mark of Stars, they will experience a sprawling world full of magic and lore to immerse themselves in. Colleen Mitchell's young adult fantasy novel is a wild rollercoaster of a ride from start to finish. The author has an eye for attention to detail, and the world of Talahm feels fleshed out, which makes the story all the more engaging. I found the characters vibrant and compelling. Emma, Luke, and Bethany are the three major characters you find yourself rooting for. I immensely enjoyed their dynamic, and the scenes between the three of them together were some of my favorites from the book. If you're a fan of young adult fantasy stories, check out The Chronicles of Talahm series.
