Matthew 13:44 by Scott Coren is an entertaining book revolving around Lucy and Steve Sinclair. Lucy and Steve form a dynamic pair living in Washington DC and expecting their first baby. But their world comes crashing down when Steve becomes sick and is found dead. Lucy is suspected of having a hand in his death and is accused by her close friend. Amid all this, Lucy gives birth to a baby girl who needs immediate cardiac surgery. She finds a scribbled note of her husband's which says 'Matthew 13:44,' which is intriguing because her husband was not a religious person at all. To make matters worse, all her life insurance and medical insurance is stalled due to the murder investigation. How will she and her daughter survive without it? It is a heart wrenching story of struggle, pain, recovery and healing.

The story has murder, medicine, love and many things happening simultaneously to make it a gripping read. The plot is inspirational as it shows a woman's struggle to emerge successful against all odds. The characters are all believable and the author has managed to create a good balance by combining the right elements together. The book teaches readers a lot of things about life. Lucy's meeting with the stranger and her time in the church bring in a healing which makes her realize how faith can enable one to survive many things in life. The spiritual transformation that Lucy undergoes amid all this is really uplifting. An excellent plot with many depths and layers to it that will keep readers entertained.
