Michaela’s Miracle by A. D. Stowers is a bittersweet love story that will have readers reaching for the nearest box of tissues. Michaela has had her share of heartbreak and disappointment over the years. After losing her parents at a young age and with no relatives to take her on, she ended up in foster care until she graduated from high school and was then promptly kicked to the street and told she was on her own. After a failed marriage and ongoing health issues, Michaela is shocked when a man walks into her life who can truly teach her what love, commitment, and faith are all about. Like Michaela, Alex has had his share of heartbreak with a former wife who was beset by serious mental issues. When he meets Michaela he knows he has met someone who is not only beautiful on the outside, but that has a heart full of love and is a warm, compassionate, and giving person. Everything seems perfect for this couple but lurking in the background is something tragic that will test the depth of their love and ultimately define the remainder of their lives together.

It is not often that a book can bring this tough, world-weary man to tears but I’m not ashamed to admit that Michaela’s Miracle is one such story. For his debut book, author A. D. Stowers has perfectly captured the intensity, power, and drama of Michaela and Alex’s love story but has also infused it with such tragedy and heartache that the tissues do need to be within reach when reading it. What I particularly liked about this relationship was the openness and sheer joy that Alex and Michaela expressed and showed to each other. Their trust in each other and their feelings was refreshing and beautiful to read. Hard as it was to read some of the sad chapters of the story, it was equally uplifting to understand the ability of this pair to enjoy the moment and to take great pleasure from everyday, mundane activities and to enjoy them specifically because they were doing them together. This is a powerful, incredibly sad, yet also deeply inspiring and uplifting read and one I enjoyed immensely. I commend the author and look forward to more novels from him. I can highly recommend this read.

In A D Stowers’s moving debut novel, Michaela's Miracle, a man’s steadfast love helps a woman during her battle with cancer. After his divorce, Alex is reluctant to get back into dating until he meets Michaela. From the start, he is drawn to her and is determined to pursue her. Their love evolves into a beautiful, meaningful relationship that neither of them could have foreseen. As Michaela fights for her life, Alex stands with her all the way. When the doctors deliver the devastating diagnosis, it is Alex who refuses to give in. Together they enjoy the time they have, choosing to live each day at a time. Both draw inspiration from each other’s faith and Michaela finds hope in Alex’s tireless devotion.

Stowers has documented a wonderful story whose powerful impact lingers beyond the book’s ending. Through its endearing main characters, the story beautifully portrays the meaning of true love and shows that love can exist even in the face of grief and tragedy. It is realistic in its depiction of terminal illness and its effect on the patient and caregiver but also contains many lovely and joyous moments. Emotions of happiness, hope, sadness, and desperation are masterfully brought out in each chapter. I loved that the story weaves practical, encouraging faith messages in different parts of the story. Though heartbreaking, its ending is uplifting and touching. Michaela's Miracle is an unforgettable story with impactful lessons that inspire hope during times of despair. Readers will love its likable characters and heart-warming messages. Highly recommended.

Michaela's Miracle by A D Stowers is a powerful story about love, faith, and miracles. When Michaela was ten years old, her father, mother, and brother were killed in a car accident. She became a ward of the state and moved from one foster home to another. After graduation from high school, she managed to attend college and later on made a decent life for herself, but was married to a man who abandoned her in her time of need. Alex, on the other hand, is a regular guy who had gone through extraordinary circumstances when his wife was diagnosed with multiple mental illnesses. When Alex and Michaela met, she learned that love and honor go together. What follows is a love story that will break the reader’s heart.

A D Stowers’s Michaela’s Miracle is a bittersweet love story that will make readers believe in true love. Michaela and Alex seem like the perfect made-for-each-other couple but are living on borrowed time. The author’s literary writing style captures the highly charged emotional tension of the plot so that readers can relate to the main characters easily. Michaela is empathetic while Alex is an honorable person. Although this is not one of those love stories with a conventional happy-ever-after-ending, we find solace in the thought that sometime in the future, the couple may once again gaze at the stars together. After all, love brings our hearts into the relationship, which creates the potential for pain. I highly recommend this book to fans of romantic stories.
