"Middle East Burning" by Mark Hitchcock is a book that takes a look at what is happening in the Middle East today and how it pertains to prophecies in the Bible. Anyone who has studied prophecies has learned that the lands mentioned back in Ezekiel, Daniel and Revelation now fall in Iraq, Iran, Turkey and other countries throughout the Middle East. Anyone who watches the news today can see what is happening: oil prices, money woes, nations fighting against nations, the people trying to overthrow the government, and Israel sits right in the middle of all of this. This is just a prelude to what is to come in the future, but one point is that Christians will not have to go through the worst of it. As the author shows how these nations will rise up together during the tribulation and go after Israel, we know God will protect his own people.

I have read a few of Mark Hitchcock’s books and they have been interesting, but as always with any book that I read dealing with prophecy, I use my Bible with it and do not take the author's word as such. I did seem to have a problem when reading this book but after a bit I did get a little bored. There seem to be quite a bit of repetitions throughout and at times I felt like I was reading a rerun of the 6:00 news. He does point out some very interesting facts about the end times and where our nation fits into all of this. I did find his proposed chronology of the end times interesting but as the author himself says he would not insist on the correctness of every detail. I find some people who are more adept at studying prophecies will understand the book better than a lay person who does not really get in and dig. Some will find the book quite powerful and others may get bored. All in all there is some great information in the book regarding the end times and the roles that will be played out. I note that I have read the ARC of this book and not the final product; so the book may change a little.
