Heather's life is in crisis. Her relationship is on the rocks, her productivity at work has dropped significantly, and now, Grace, her supervisor, is on her case. The only sources of comfort she has are her friend Whitney and her neighbor Lucas. When her supervisor sends Heather home for a week to sort herself out, warning her that they will terminate her appointment if she fails to improve, she turns to Lucas for something to take the edge off. He offers her a pill that looks oddly like a mint. Heather takes it but does not realize that this pill may be more than it seems until it is almost too late. Now, she must fight for her life in Lynn Taylor's Mindscape.

In Mindscape, Lynn Taylor takes inspiration from the impact of mind-altering drugs on users. She vividly depicts the turmoil in Heather's life by outlining the events that led to her relationship's breakdown and the unusual reasons for her daily detours on the way to work. The dialogues are unsettlingly authentic, beginning with a humorous undertone that gradually turns frightening as readers grasp the true nature of Heather's inner demons. Taylor utilizes metaphors like invisible force fields and glass walls to represent Heather's hurdles in her dreamlike state. The most poignant symbol is the little child who embodies her inner self. Readers will readily resonate with these elements, enhancing the narrative's believability. The combat scenes are captivating, with detailed portrayals of Heather's confrontations with her foes. Taylor's unique narrative style and thought-provoking romantic subplot create an entertaining adventure that immerses readers as they ponder a solution to a social issue that has gradually become the norm.
