Tony Burnett's Mirage is a gritty crime thriller with lead characters Carrie James and DJ (Kevin) Cash, who don't trust each other and have opposite purposes. But they agree to work together to bring down a drug cartel on the Mexican-US border. Carrie has demons from her childhood of psychological and physical abuse, for which she blames her estranged father. She joins law enforcement and quickly rises to the rank of deputy sheriff in Texas's Bee County, not for justice, but for vengeance over a childhood friend's sex trafficking-related death. Kevin (DJ) is quirky and charming with the ambition to make money. Their paths cross, and they establish a collaboration. Their motivations differ, but they share a common goal: to bring down the cartel and its corrupt law enforcement officials. While being undercover, they must break the law to achieve their mission, but the number of untrustworthy individuals is overwhelming.
