Mom: I Love You to the Beach and More celebrates motherly love. Written by Becki A. Jacobson, it illustrates the beautiful relationship between a young girl and her mother. The background setting is a beach. The narrator reveals the feelings she has for her mother and equates them to the depths of the sea and the everlasting nature of a sandy beach. She remembers the first time she held her mother's hand. She recalls the laughs they shared, and there were times too when she cried on her mother's shoulder. When she needed to be brave, her mother was her biggest cheerleader and made her feel loved when she needed it the most. She faced many challenges, but her mother was always there as a constant.
Using photographic illustrations, Becki A. Jacobson has crafted a heartwarming narrative that emphasizes the importance of maternal love in a young girl's life. I think Mom: I Love You to the Beach and More will captivate both young and older readers because of the universally relatable subject matter, of course, but also due to the way the author has crafted the narrative. It's straightforward yet feels profound because of the emotions it evokes in the reader. Children will be able to engage and resonate with it quite easily. Personally, I felt that using the beach as a metaphor for a mother's constant presence in a person's life was brilliant. I also liked the illustrations very much. They suit the narrative and complement it very well. Overall, the book is a quick read, but a rewarding one nonetheless. I will definitely recommend it.
