Mourning Grey is a work of fiction penned by author Marie Montine in the dark fantasy, paranormal, horror, and adventure subgenres, and forms the opening novel of The Empians Pantheon series. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience. In this thrilling dark tale, Cassandra learns of her fate to be the vampire slayer, destined to end the age-old feud between humans and vampires. However, she's determined to find a way to resolve this conflict without violence. Her journey leads her to fall in love with one of her vampire enemies, setting the stage for a forbidden love story filled with horror, magic, secrets, and the age-old struggle between light and darkness.
Author Marie Montine's highly original interpretation of the vampire genre is a breath of fresh air, offering readers a different perspective on the traditional theme with significantly less blood and guts and a lot more intelligent horror elements as a result. The narrative sticks close to the emotional core of the characters, and its intricacy strikes a balance between impossible love and the epic battle between good and evil, infusing it with a heroic grandeur that's undeniably captivating. Another feature of the work that really impressed me is its world-building, which creates a complex and intricate story with a wide array of characters that fit their world. You can clearly see how their attitudes have been shaped by their surroundings, grounding them as real people and endearing them to us all the more. Despite its length and detail, the writing style is straightforward and accessible, making it easy for readers to immerse themselves in the story. Overall, if you're a fan of paranormal romance and yearn for a fresh and exhilarating take on the eternal conflict between good and evil, Mourning Grey is a compelling choice that I can highly recommend.
