Mouse by the Tail is a terrific fantasy by Kae Jeen Wong. Tavi Fable is a student at the Piscare Academy for Mice. He and the other mice are puzzled about the large gathering of owls they see, as well as the mysterious disappearances of students and civilians. There is also an angry swarm of meshitos nearby. Tavi is elected to be one of the investigators who assists Grey, a knightmouse of the Order of Skook, to solve these disappearances. He thinks Greenfaeries are mythical creatures until he's captured by them. Greenfaeries have joined forces with the owls to abduct mice and weaken the rodent population. Her Meshitoic Majesty wants revenge when her royal larvae are poisoned and the mice are blamed. Will Tavi be able to help prevent an inter-species war?
I was reminded of the Harry Potter Series while reading Mouse by the Tail by Kae Jeen Wong. Although the book doesn’t have the element of magic like the Harry Potter novels, it still has a similar mystical charm and intrigue. I like the writing style of the author, and think she cleverly creates a most unusual cast of characters in a very strong plot. The story is fast paced, and I like the excerpts at the top of each chapter. Kae Jeen Wong demonstrates how imaginative she can be in writing this wonderful story. The book cover is nicely illustrative and enhances the content well. Mouse by the Tail will definitely make an entertaining fantasy movie.
