I smiled while reading the first tale from Mr. Chiardi and Other Stories. My smile then changed to laughter which didn’t stop until this entertaining book was finished. Can you picture an elderly couple getting the urge to slide down a snow covered hill on a toboggan, after watching the neighbours’ kids do it? What would you do if an orange got sassy with you, as was the case in the story called Fresh Fruit? Have you or your child thought about colleges to apply to? Maybe one of the unique institutions from Time for College will help you make a decision. These are just a few of the amusing tales penned by author Charles Maxwell.
It is obvious from reading that Charles Maxwell has a very imaginative mind and a strong sense of humour. This is clearly seen in all his stories which are well written. All the tales are as different as night from day, so my curiosity increased as I started each new one. I was never disappointed, as Mr. Chiardi and Other Stories is cleverly creative with some of the most original plots and colorful characters I’ve come across. The witty exchange of dialogue was also an important part of the stories, and it strongly reflects the author’s personality. He writes in a relaxed manner and is not afraid to be bold with his words or subject content. This lovely short collection of stories is a book I gladly recommend.
