Mt. Forgotten by Kevin Abrams is a literary family saga. Clover Dolores Mackelmore never expected to be at the center of a battle for her homeland. But when her grandfather’s ski empire clashes with the Indigenous Le’Echuwanna tribe, she is forced to confront the legacy of her family and the fate of Fortooth Bend. Spanning generations, Mt. Forgotten is a sweeping tale of tradition, conflict, and one young woman’s journey to preserve a land and a history that is certainly worth saving.
Author Kevin Abrams presents the kind of unique read that only true literary fiction masters can bring to life, and he achieves it in this beautifully crafted multi-generational epic with deep themes and unforgettable characters. It’s a slow starter, but one that is immediately warm and has a narrative confidence to keep you reading on. This is well worth the effort as the ideas build and readers discover a wondrous combination of family drama, environmental stakes, and cultural heritage. These disparate elements are brought together well through Clover and her thoughts. She is indeed a remarkable heroine with lively dialogue that demonstrates a determined and courageous spirit as she finds herself caught in a battle much bigger than herself. The culture clashes are relatable, and the overall message is one of relinquishing selfishness that is certainly well worth exploring in today’s insular world. Overall, Mt. Forgotten is a highly recommended read and a rich, thought-provoking literary journey that lingers long after the final chapter.
