Murder Under a Mystic Moon by Abigail Keam is the fourteenth book in the 1930s Mona Moon Historical Cozy Mystery series. Mona Moon returns in another thrilling mystery when her honeymoon takes a chaotic turn. Given the status of her husband, the Duke of Brynelleth, Mona has indulged in island hopping, sightseeing extraordinary ruins, and mysteriously running into old friends such as Agatha Christie. With the Pinkertons looking after their well-being, Mona should feel secure, but she can’t shake the feeling that something bad is approaching, and the closer they get to the end of the trip, the closer danger comes. She prepares for possible disaster by doing what she does best: investigating for herself.
Abigail Keam brings readers another delightful sleuthing adventure with the perfect blend of mystery and history. The story includes familiar elements from the previous books, with Mona’s wit and the cozy hijinks. Mona and Robert’s relationship is a delightful part of the series, and the dynamic they share only gets better with each book. This dynamic transfers to how they interact with other characters, with humorous exchanges that help maintain the lighthearted tone, such as Mona’s scenes with the Pinkertons. The mystery remains upbeat throughout, with the intrigue never wavering and the suspense never failing to entertain. These events occur against a historical backdrop as references are woven into the plot and dialogue. The historical elements are a necessary component of the story to establish the era, which directly impacts how the characters speak and behave. Keam successfully takes readers back to the 1930s without being heavy-handed and by casually incorporating relevant references. Another dazzling mystery, Murder Under a Mystic Moon offers the reader the fun and chaos that follows Mona wherever she goes with more surprises, delight, and historical events.
