Mystery in the Mine: Gold Dust Returns by Thomas Trimble is a story of hope and working hard until you achieve your dreams. Michael Bishop is not someone people would call successful, but he is someone people would call hard working. This is all that he has known; hard work and relying on yourself is all that he ever had. So when he finds out that he has inherited a gold mine from his grandfather, he takes that as his chance to make something of his life. He gets a crew together and starts working the mine. Plus, it seems like there is something in the mine that wants him to succeed. Someone or something is helping them out, but at what cost? Can Michael trust his phantom helper or is there a catch that he does not know about?
Mystery in the Mine: Gold Dust Returns by Thomas Trimble is a short story, but it packs a punch of action and suspense. I enjoyed Michael’s character, his tenacity and how he always strived for the best, even when most people in his shoes would have run for the hills. He is an admirable and believable character; you can find pieces of yourself in him and realize that he isn’t so different from us. I liked the narrative of the story, I enjoyed the flow and I loved the pace. It kept me on the edge of my seat and waiting for more breathlessly. The dialogues were fun and crisp; they revealed a lot about Michael and the kind of person he is. I enjoyed this story very much.
