Nature, Spirituality, & Illegal Mining: Welcome to the Amazon by Chad Vegas is a compelling novel that plunges the reader into the heart of the Amazon jungle, a tale of adventure that features very interesting characters and strong themes. The narrator and his cuidantes decide to build a home in the heart of the Peruvian jungle, a property outside of Quince Mil and in the middle of Cusco and Puerto Maldonado, and this evokes the idea of being away from the city and civilized society. The opening sentence grabs the reader immediately and prepares them for the dangers that lie ahead. In this story, the author shares exciting experiences about life in the jungle and features a unique cast of characters, including gold miners with dubious attitudes, corrupt judges, and many more.
The story is compelling and will appeal to fans of travel and adventure. Chad Vegas pulls the reader in right from the very beginning with the unique and strong narrative voice, the vivid descriptions of elements of the setting and the imagery. The setting is one of the strongest components of the story and depicts not only the beauty of the natural world of the Amazon jungle but also the beast it can be. The characters are richly developed and I loved Gino, Max, Emilio, Benji and how they react to situations so naturally. The descriptive character of the prose reflects the confidence of the author in telling this story, and the first person point of view augments the clarity. Nature, Spirituality, & Illegal Mining: Welcome to the Amazon is a powerful novel that explores nature in its primal form and the effects of illegal human activity on the environment. Chad Vegas creates an exciting world that readers will want to explore, a beautifully written story that feels so natural yet exciting in its setting and in the plot points.
