Navigate to the Lighthouse by Kurt Davis is a compelling book full of helpful advice, wisdom, and tools for building a successful company. He outlines the importance of business development as a whole and breaks down the role, values, approach, and strategy of the “Business Development Captain” in a company. Readers will derive value from learning how to build a story, the various types of pitches needed, and how marketing and customer success play integral roles in supporting business development. Davis does a great job of providing clear examples and words of wisdom that let the reader know how to identify and capture market share and the right “lighthouse” deals, along with supporting deals that are smaller. He outlines how to build and maintain client relationships, even going as far as making suggestions culture by culture.
Navigate to the Lighthouse by Kurt Davis is a must-read for the entrepreneurial-minded person. Each section of the book does a deep dive into the foundational pieces of company building, focusing on a central pillar: business development.
