Never Let Go by Lori Duffy Foster is a horrifying psychological thriller. Carla is thrilled to be invited to lunch by her best friend, Rachel, especially when she is asked to take her baby with her. Rachel doesn’t like kids and wasn’t a close friend to Carla while she was pregnant but that doesn’t stop Carla from hoping she’s had a change of heart. Nothing could prepare her for the nightmare she was about to face. Drugged, she wakes up alone, locked in a room in the basement, her child gone. Rachel wants something from Carla – she wants her husband. If Carla doesn’t help her get what she wants, they will all die, and Carla will never see her baby again. What happened to Carla’s baby? Can Carla’s husband find her in time or is all lost?
Never Let Go by Lori Duffy Foster is a fantastic thriller with a brilliant plot about a betrayal of the worst kind – by a supposed best friend. It’s action all the way, and the first chapter tells you all you need to know about the story’s tone and direction. Jealousy is the worst kind of emotion and it plays a huge role in this story. The main characters are really well-developed, intricate people with intricate lives, but there are other characters who seem to be unrelated but are important to the outcome. The story unfolds in a tense buildup to the finale, the details drip-fed in what seems to be a slow-burning story. But it’s a story you won’t forget, with plenty of plot twists to keep you on your toes, and it might even have you questioning your own friendships. Fantastic book, highly recommended for anyone who wants something different to get stuck into – and get stuck in, you will.
