New World Order is a work of fiction in the science fiction, action, and adventure subgenres, and it is a further addition to the saga that sits alongside the Order of Avalon and City of the Fallen trilogies set in the same universe. The work is penned by author duo Robert Slaughter and Jerry Brown and is best suited to the adult reading audience for its wartime content and plot complexity. In this continuing trilogy, we find ourselves following the tale of hero Tristan Hart, a guarded individual shaped by a rough life as a young mercenary. As the plot for global conquest looms from a dangerous foreign nation, Tristan must face many challenges, both external and internal, to stand up against tyranny and fight for freedom.

One of the standout features for me in this thrilling novel was the atmosphere and dedication to world-building, which makes for a totally immersive experience that is hard to come by in sci-fi and fantasy fiction. Author team Robert Slaughter and Jerry Brown clearly know their world inside out, from its logically ordered political and military issues through to the individual details of a character’s upbringing and shady past, and this immersion and realism leave you biting your nails to see what will happen to the hero of the tale as you’re so invested in their success. Tristan makes for a fully-realized hero with a lot of depth, and the commitment to narrating his psychology, attitude, and dialogue is second to none. Overall, I would certainly recommend New World Order to fans of immersive science fiction everywhere.
