In Night of the Basking Iguana by Sandi Penniman, Alex is on a quest for perfection. Married to a man old enough to be her father, she gets an invitation through the post one day to attend a dinner at The Basking Iguana. Run by the best chef in the world, Lorenzo, the restaurant opens just one night a year and nobody knows where. Those who are chosen are sent a series of clues that take them around the world. Alex accepts and sets off but no one wants her to go. Her husband, her ex-alcoholic mother, and a number of very strange men she keeps seeing seem intent on making her go home and toe the line. Alex resists and sets off on a journey that will change her life forever. Along the way, she grows and she strengthens up and life changes irrevocably for her.

Night of the Basking Iguana by Sandi Penniman was a really good read. It had elements of everything in it, from fear to success and I felt there was also an underlying message in it, about dealing with all life can throw your way. All of the characters were exceptionally well written, but I especially liked Donk, he reminded me of a big teddy-bear kind of guy! Excellent story line, a refreshing change to read something so totally different from the norm. I defy any reader not to enjoy it and I will be looking out for more from Ms. Penniman for sure.
