Night Lasers is an action-packed science fiction tale by David Serra that follows two friends, Lawson and Wyatt, as they encounter an unexpected challenge in the woods. After a night out at a party, they stumble upon a group of reptilian aliens known as reptiums, led by the formidable Veronica. The aliens issue a challenge to a laser tag battle, setting off a thrilling competition filled with strategy, agility, and survival. Lawson and Wyatt deftly navigate the terrain, using their quick wits and teamwork to outsmart the reptiums. Though outnumbered, the duo systematically disables their opponents' laser guns one by one. Their bravery and ingenuity shine through as they turn the tide against the alien group, forcing them to retreat in defeat. The narrative hints at a broader conflict with the reptiums, suggesting past and possibly future encounters that add an intriguing layer to the adventure.
I thoroughly enjoyed the high-energy pace and adventurous tone of Night Lasers. David Serra delivers precisely what you’d expect from a science fiction thriller: fast-paced action, inventive use of alien technology, and suspenseful moments that keep readers on the edge of their seats. Lawson and Wyatt are relatable heroes whose strong camaraderie makes the laser tag battle all the more engaging. The vivid descriptions of their tactics—such as dodging lasers, taking cover, and Wyatt's impressive backflip—bring the action to life. The blend of humor and suspense, especially with Wyatt’s light-hearted quips, adds an extra dose of enjoyment to the story. Themes like courage and teamwork are woven in seamlessly, providing depth without overshadowing the excitement of the battle.
