Nite Nite, Kitty Cats is a children's picture book in English and Spanish by Jane E. Ruth. A grandmother reads a bedtime story to her two granddaughters as she sits in bed with them. Every turn of the page is dedicated to a different cat. Their features are described, and the felines are shown sleeping, playing, and sitting contentedly. On one page, each cat's characteristics are outlined, and on the opposite page, the cat stares at the reader or sleeps peacefully. Balls of yarn and toy fish sometimes adorn the pages alongside ten different cats. At the end of the story, the author provides the breed of each cat, from Birman to Tonkinese, in Spanish and English.
Jane E. Ruth's book has English and Spanish on the same page, helping young readers understand and interpret the words as they read. Yassy Duque's illustrations are vibrant and show the tranquility of the sleepy kittens, making them so cute that readers may feel like they could almost jump out of the pages. The information at the end of the story can start educational conversations. The material after the story helps readers understand concepts they may not have investigated. I read the book to my daughter, and we were curious about the Ragdoll breed. After finishing the story, we spent an hour looking at different breeds of cats, deepening our knowledge of the subject. This book is a soothing story for the end of the day, full of cuddly friends children will love. Readers who enjoy books about animals or cute cats will want to read Nite Nite, Kitty Cats at every storytime.
