No Wet Feet for Quincy by Renee Hayes is about a lovely duckling named Quincy who can't stand his feet being wet. Quincy struggles daily as geese and swans bully him for remaining on the shore of Dragonfly Pond. Quincy has friends and other ducks who constantly call him to swim with them. He tries to find a solution for his "quirky trait." One day he put on flip-flops and on other occasions flippers or boots to be where he should be - in the water with his friends. Will Quincy succeed? Written in rhyme and beautifully illustrated by the talented Kristina Dutton, this would make a wonderful gift for children, their parents, and those who work with youngsters.
No Wet Feet for Quincy highlights an unusual and annoying attribute that Quincy overcomes to emerge stronger. Quincy's character is lovable and inspiring. He knows that he differs from other ducks, yet he comes out with a new creative solution every morning to achieve his goal. Renee Hayes teaches about mutual support and how to resist bullies, leading little readers toward discovering their stronger and better selves. The humorous rhymes with repetitions are like a song and will help children remember Quincy's adventures for a long time. The vivid illustrations show that Quincy is a fast learner. He gets his ideas from the kids who come to Dragonfly Pond, motivating young readers to improve their observational skills. I appreciated that Quincy's attitude stayed fearless despite his doubts. I believe that Hayes has created a wonderful role model for children who may feel insecure.
