Did you know that the ocean is your friend? It’s also an important part of our lives. In short, it takes care of our planet which takes care of us. Anna Smithers, Laura Bingham, Laura Bontje, and Nino Aptsiauri have created a book, Ocean Full of Wonder, to teach young readers about the ocean and to inspire them to take care of it. There is so much we can learn from the ocean: the plant and animal life that lives below the surface and on its shores, the way the waters control our weather, and the way it lends itself to our recreational and transportation needs. Unfortunately, the ocean has also become a dumping place for plastics and other non-degradable refuse. It’s killing sea life, which in turn will kill us, too. We need to take care of the ocean so it can continue to take care of us.
Anna Smithers, Laura Bingham, Laura Bontje, and Nino Aptsiauri’s picture book, Ocean Full of Wonder, is a great way to teach young readers about the wonders of the ocean. Told in rhyming verse, this educational book outlines the many benefits of the ocean and how important it is to protect it. Not only is the ocean beautiful, but it’s part of nature that sustains us and all the creatures and plant life that live both in it and around it. The illustrations that accompany this story are spectacularly beautiful and full of intricate details. At the end of the book, there are some interactive exercises to help young readers learn to recognize different sea creatures as well as a list of things we can do to protect this valuable resource. This is a great introduction for young people to become protectors of our planet for future generations.
