Odin the Ferret by Kathryn V. White is a short story full of humour. So what is the worst that can happen to you while you try to sneak an unwanted pet into your mum's house? How about tripping on the doormat and breaking your mum's favorite porcelain figurine? Now that is what I call a dramatic entrance. Just when your has finally accepted your pet ferret in her home, it decides to escape from its cage and 'accompany' her to the grocery store. Imagine the chaos that ensues at the grocery store when the owner sees the 'rat' in her store, meandering on the food shelves. You rescue your pet from the fracas and hope and pray, pray very hard, that you both get out of the mess but there are repercussions for you to face while the main culprit, the ferret, snuggles next to your mom on the couch.

Odin the Ferret by Kathryn V. White is a hilarious short story told with a lot of humour. It highlights the wacky events in the life of a pet ferret, its owner and a mum who never wanted the pet in her house in the first place, and how somehow these events end up bonding the ferret and your mum, while the owner pays for its crimes. Kathryn V. White's writing style vividly brought the story to life. As I read on, I could clearly picture the different hilarious scenes and all the chaos that the little creature brought into what must have previously been a peaceful home; but with the chaos came love and hard lessons learnt. Odin the Ferret is a very entertaining story and would be a fun way to teach kids about the responsibilities of owning a pet.
