Old Fashioned Murder by KC Walker is the first book in the Arrow Investigations Mystery series. Whitley has traded her exciting life as a stuntwoman for a boring existence in Arrow Springs. That wasn't necessarily by choice. After she was given an ultimatum by her mother, she chose to live with her grandma. Life with Bobbie isn't as boring as she thought. Keeping up with Bobbie proves to be a challenge, especially after her grandmother takes up a new career as a private detective and delves into mysterious accidents. It's all fun and games until someone ends up dead. Now Whitley finds herself caught up in her grandma's plans to catch a killer and possibly embark on the adventure of a lifetime.
At the core of the plot is the relationship between Whitley and Bobbie which is an amazing dynamic that KC Walker captures with heart, humor, and fun. Both are full-personality characters that come to life on the page with a rarely-seen dynamic. Walker writes with a great voice that weaves a lighthearted tone and plenty of attitude that takes you along for the ride. Bobbie is a delightful character with a zest for new possibilities and a penchant for jumping from business to business. She breaks all the grandma stereotypes and it's clear that Walker enjoyed every moment of creating this character. Bobbie's desire to investigate is the catalyst that keeps Whitley on her toes and what helps to draw her into this mystery. Their dynamic will have you laughing all the way through as Walker successfully captures the personalities of these two spunky women. Comedic elements are woven throughout and the humorous aspects are quick-witted, proving that Walker can successfully weave a narrative in Old Fashioned Murder with mystery, fun, and an epic grandmother-granddaughter relationship.
