Let us meet Ollie the crab in the story Ollie: Ollie's Great Adventure by Krista Scott. Ollie stretches his legs to the sound of the ocean and scuttles off for a drink of water and a bite to eat every evening. Ollie wonders what to do after dinner. He is happy to see the shells that have been washed ashore as he can add a few more to his collection. Suddenly seagulls rain down out of the sky. Ollie raises his claws, backing away from a seagull’s attack. Before Ollie knows it, he is in the seagull’s beak, taking him far away from the ocean. Ollie pinches and pokes the seagull and the seagull drops him into a garbage can. Ollie meets different types of animals and tries asking for help, hoping to find his way back to the beach. Will Ollie get back to the smell of the ocean and the sound of the waves? If so, who helps him get there?
Ollie: Ollie's Great Adventure is an adorable story of a crab trying to find his way back home. The illustrations are delightful and they breathe life into the story and give it a good pace and movement. Children also get to meet different types of animals and critters along with Ollie. It is a good story for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries, and parents and grandparents can use it for storytelling sessions at home. The story has a happy ending and it is wonderful to see Ollie find his home where his heart belongs; the beach, the sand, and the sound of waves.
