Author Biography

The granddaughter of a coal miner and the great-great-granddaughter of one of the Muscogee people, Donna was raised in the shadows of the Appalachian Mountains, in the beautiful hills of East Tennessee. She was lured away from her mountains by an admittedly gorgeous Italian guy, who married her and carried her off to very flat (they call hills mountains down here) and very hot (no seriously, people bake cookies in their cars) Texas. Donna has made her living doing a little bit of everything, including a stint as an IRS tax auditor, a few years managing bookstores, and a long career writing and managing writers in the corporate world.

Besides writing, and all the wonderful things that go with it, Donna enjoys being walked by her Chihuahua, doing yoga, and reading - LOTS of reading. And you can certainly see the influence of the science fiction books on her keeper shelf - Robert Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, Anne McCaffrey, Lois McMaster Bujold, Ray Bradbury, and so many others - on her books. But the ancient and magical and beautiful mountains that surrounded her childhood are probably the biggest influence on the Books of the Kindling.

Melissa “Mel” Noblett, a journalist and environmental activist, is in Milan gathering information from a whistleblower about a new bee virus, but is disappointed by the lack of progress. To salvage the trip, her editor sends her to Bologna to interview Dr. Daniel Woodruff, a scientist attending a conference in the city, about his research and his connections to Meyer Agro-Chemical, a controversial corporate giant at the heart of Mel’s investigation. When they meet, both Mel and Daniel are immediately drawn to each other. However, neither is aware of the other’s secret ability—Daniel can see visions of the future when he interacts with people, and Mel is a tele-empath. That’s not all. Mel’s job has put her in danger. A powerful force is hunting her, determined to silence her at any cost. Find out how it all goes down in Origami Dreams by Donna June Cooper.

Donna June Cooper weaves an enthralling tale in Origami Dreams. The prose is reflective and intimate, and is packed with suspense, paranormal mystery, contemporary drama, romance, and a touch of fantasy. The distinctive settings, along with all the action as the characters moved from Bologna to Florence and Woodruff Mountain, were brought to life on the pages. I could see the beautiful Italian countryside as Mel and Daniel drove to Florence, and it felt as if I was in the city, walking along its narrow, crowded streets and staring at its ornate architecture. Cooper has a knack for balancing the plot’s development with the characters’ personal lives, making it easy to connect with the latter and follow the storyline.
