In ‘Original Cin’ a typical high school junior suddenly experiences some amazing transformations with the arrival of her sixteenth birthday. All of a sudden, Cindra Elle Carmichael is changed from the klutzy track team member and good student into someone who has to run for her life. Without knowing what has happened to her or why she can do some pretty strange things, the one fact she does know is that crazy people are out to get her and she has to leave behind her family and friends to keep them safe. Moving around the country on her own, not having any idea if there is anyone she can trust, Cin finally accepts the help of Chloe, a young woman who can finally give Cin answers to her questions. That doesn’t mean things are going to be much easier, but at least Cin understands who she is and what she has to do.
"Original Cin" by Sandra Hoopes is a creative new twist on some traditional vampire/witch/demon themes. Hoopes sets the stage neatly for what happens once Cin turns 16. While Cin expects this to be the beginning of wonderful things to come as she finishes high school and moves on, little did anyone expect exactly how different her life would really become. Building on her natural abilities and intelligence, some new characteristics change Cin into a person who really needs to be taken seriously. With the help of a new friend and personal advisor, Cin learns about her developing special traits and how to use them to protect herself and those around her. She stands up to major changes and quickly finds out that life is frequently not what it is expected to be.
