Overcoming by Zachary D. Larson is the story of the author as he conquered the odds and lived to tell the tale. After the death of his sister, his parents divorced and his mother got custody of him and his two brothers. From there onwards, their life was never easy. They learned discipline from their mother and Zach always had respect for that. Fast-forward to high school where Zach wasn’t doing well and his grades weren’t the best for any college aspirations. By chance, he decided to join a military boarding school and that turned out to be the best decision he could ever make for himself. That was the beginning of a life that he would be proud of in the future. There he learned brotherhood, discipline, and what it takes to create a life worth living. This memoir is the author’s success story and he shares it with readers.

Overcoming by Zachary D. Larson is an inspiring story. Zach picked himself up, dusted off the past, and chased after his dream. His luck worked for him, but he worked hard to get where he aspired to be. His journey was not sunshine and rainbows, he had to fight tooth and nail to get a stable life that he could be proud of. What I loved the most about this memoir was that Zach never held back. He gave readers a blow-by-blow account of his life from the best to the worst. The author shared the raw and painful realities that he had to face as a captain in the United States Army. He laid his life bare for readers to experience. It was hard for me to believe the author is not a writer by profession because Overcoming was phenomenal. The narrative was incredibly smooth, the pace was perfect, and the author handled the development pretty well. It proved to be very educational as well. This inspirational memoir is a must-read.
