I absolutely loved Paper or Plastic? The Grocery Store Chronicles. Having worked in retail, I completely related to everything Rick Bylina wrote. His stories were hilarious and totally worth reading.
I chose to read Paper or Plastic? The Grocery Store Chronicles because of my background in working retail. Little did I know that Bylina would have me actually laughing out loud with his tales as a night cashier. Every story Bylina wrote in this book is funny. His “after-the-facts” notes were hysterical. I have to admit I have thought the same things numerous times. Bylina claims to be an older man, but you cannot tell in this book with the way he knows his pop culture. I found his analogy of Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars rather interesting and I think he might be on to something there. I also believe that the soda that committed “sodacide” was just an initiation. Every cashier has to get covered in soda in order to fully appreciate the job.
I liked that he brought up the interesting fact about the perfect looking vegetables. Ugly veggies deserve some respect too! They get the job done just the same. I also liked that Bylina had special, stand-out customers. They always make the day better. The only thing that I did not like about the book were the website links included throughout, but only because my old Kindle would not let me look at them. Other than that, this book was just about perfect for me. I definitely want to read Bylina’s other books after this!
