Pathway to Home: A Becker Family Novel by Pat Wahler will appeal strongly to fans of contemporary romance with complex characters. Not long after casting the ashes of her mother into the waters, Mira is given a letter her mother left behind with her friend, Dinah. In the letter, she shares the secret she had kept until death: “One I’ve resisted. Until now. I can tell you about your father.” Now, Mira Gordon can’t resist the urge to go and look for James Todd, her father, on a journey that takes her from Key West to Kansas City. When Aiden Stewart, a single parent and firefighter, sets his eyes on Mira, he is fascinated by her. He knows deep in his heart that he wants her. But can they move on from their painful pasts to embrace the possibility of a happy future together?
This is a story with strong plot points and interesting characters. The premise is powerful: Mira suddenly discovers the identity of her father and learns from a letter how he met her mother. But she has no clue why he left and never came back. Her quest will not only unveil a tragedy that made it impossible for James Todd to come back to the love of his life but will reveal a family she never knew existed and a man who will turn her world the way her father turned her mother’s. The characters are well-developed and the author explores the way their pasts have affected them with skill and cleverness. Pathway to Home: A Becker Family Novel by Pat Wahler is a beautiful romance with themes of family, love, parenting, and death — and these themes are well-written. It is fast-paced and emotionally rich. I found myself rooting for the characters from the very start and cared so much about them that I wanted to know what happened next to them. Simply gorgeous!
