Perfectly Sunny by Tricia Easter is the story of how 'A Big-Hearted Hedgehog Finds Her Forever Home.' Sunny the Hedgehog only has three legs but she has the biggest heart ever. All she wants is a warm, loving home of her own. She lives in the Purrfect pet shop but the owner, Ms. Prim, only shows animals she thinks are perfect, and Sunny gets left out, leaving her with doubts about herself. How can she ever find a home if no one ever sees her? But then, one day, a little girl goes to the shop and when she sees Sunny, it’s love at first sight. Finally, Sunny gets the home she’s always wanted.
Perfectly Sunny is a cute, heartwarming tale about perfection and what it really means. This isn’t just about adopting a hedgehog as a pet. It’s about learning that perfection comes in all shapes and sizes, and just because someone looks or talks differently – or an animal looks different from the others – doesn’t mean they aren't perfect. Being unique is special and this book, with its wonderful illustrations by Alina Slyshik, shows kids that learning to love their uniqueness helps them learn to love themselves, boosting self-esteem and self-worth. It teaches them that who they are is enough to make them special and not to see others as imperfect. Even better, this is based on a true story and we even meet the real Sunny at the end of the book. A thoroughly enjoyable story, and highly recommended for all kids to enjoy and learn more about themselves.
