Petunia the Unicorn Moves to the Big City by R.L. Ullman will be enjoyed by young and old. Petunia Cupcake Fluffybottom lives with her Aunt Sprinkles, her sweet little Corgi, Gumdrop, and Winston the butler. Aunt Sprinkles has just purchased a brownstone in New York City. Petunia and her aunt are exploring the sights when Petunia realizes they are the only unicorns in the city. They create quite a stir in the media and among the neighbors, some of whom aren't very welcoming. Her aunt decides to invite her neighbors to a party so they can become better acquainted, but it doesn't go quite as planned. Will Petunia and her aunt stay in New York?
Petunia the Unicorn Moves to the Big City will be loved by unicorn and rainbow fans alike! R. L. Ullman has created two strong female characters. Kids will relate to Petunia and love her special unicorn magic. What an important message for kids to hear, that despite other people's actions, you can choose to act graciously. The illustrations by Yusup Mediyan are perfect. I can see kids wanting to dress up just like Petunia with her pink hair and tail and golden horn. The illustrations are full of bright, vivid, cheerful colors. Too bad there isn't a recipe for Winston's Chocolate Chocolate Bundt cake because it sounds divine! As a former children's librarian, I know that Petunia the Unicorn Moves to the Big City will be a huge hit. One of our most frequent requests was for unicorn books and Ullman has written an outstanding one. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Petunia and Gumdrop.
