Katherine Mahoney’s career as an officer with the seventh fleet takes a turn for the worse when she attempts to end the life of her former husband, Luke Walker, over personal differences. She prepares for the consequences of her actions, which may involve a court martial. Still, before that hammer falls, she turns her attention to dealing with the blowback from losing one of her pilots who got shot down during a mission in enemy territory and the supposedly minor matter of a health scare at an American facility. She has no idea that the ghosts of her past are about to make a grand reentry in her present battle for survival in Mike Krentz’s Points Of Attack.

Mike Krentz’s Points Of Attack is an entertaining balance of action and drama and the third book in the Mahoney And Squire Military Fiction series. He maintains continuity in the series with references to specific high points in the previous books and the evolution of Kate’s personal life. He captures the essence of military service with salutations and banter, and the subtle hint of the long-standing refusal to acknowledge what they view as non-conforming relationships among service personnel. The combat sequences are pretty detailed, while the romantic triangle between Kate and the men in her life creates an intriguing yet realistic subplot. Mike Krentz’s storytelling approach highlights the challenges female members of the armed forces face in getting ahead in their respective fields. Kate attempts to present a practical front despite simultaneously dealing with personal and professional challenges in her journey. I enjoyed reading this captivating novel with its nuggets of real-world wisdom that readers can learn from.
