Principal Sam Gets Fit! by Paul Semendinger, Ed.D. is an adorable and informative story for children of all ages. The story begins with Principal Sam waking up on the morning of November 1 and feeling queasy. He had been to many Halloween parties the previous day and had eaten pizza, candy corn, and bagels. He now looks at his growing belly and wants to get fit. He meets the physical education teacher so that he can go to his class and play baseball. He has a nutritious breakfast the next day before leaving for school. Principal Sam is already feeling fit and good. Will he be able to get back in shape?
The book is a fun way to understand the importance of eating healthily and staying fit. Principal Sam is a good example to all those who want to exercise, eat healthily, and stay fit. The illustrations are vivid and colorful and they give clarity to the author’s concept and words. Principal Sam is indeed someone everyone needs to emulate when it comes to being healthy and he is real and relatable. It is a good book to introduce to classroom read aloud sessions because of the message, and parents can use it for bedtime storytelling to help children understand how to keep fit and eat healthily. There is a fun angle in the story – that is when Principal Sam starts mixing up his activities with sports! The author blends it well with the story, bringing a smile to the faces of readers.
