Redfall: Fight for Survival (American Prepper Series Book 1) by Jay J. Falconer is an action story about a new weather phenomenon that threatens to destroy all of humanity. The story starts in a terrible dystopian world. The media broadcasts sanctioned government executions, including the execution of the main character Simon Redfall’s wife. The end of the world started with the legalization of marijuana. Legalized prostitution and gambling followed next. The terrible execution of Simon’s wife sets the stage for how dark and scary the world has become. But it gets worse when a deadly rain starts to fall and threatens to destroy whatever civilization remains on the planet. Communication is knocked out and travel almost completely stops. Simon joins a group of survivalists looking for answers. What is the end game? What do they want? Who is behind it? And how can Simon stop it?

Redfall: Fight for Survival is an awesome action and dystopian tale that is dark, gritty, and scary because it could be so real. It has an authentic tone that really scared me, as a reader, because I feared for my own safety. What if the things written in this tale come true? Knowing that I was reading a piece of fiction, but was still so moved to think about my impending future, means that Falconer is a master writer who excels at his craft. I loved the characters in this story and the mystery behind the rain. I couldn't put the book down until I knew how it ended.

Simon Redfall is at a loose end. After roaming the country, staying off the grid, he has returned to Washington to find closure. He thought the much televised execution of his wife, who was caught on camera mass killing a bus load of scientists, would help bring closure. But it didn't. As she called out to him in her last moments before the effects of the brutal execution tortured her body, strangling the life out of her, he felt an intense pain engulf him. Trying to flee the public place where he observed the execution, he is recognized and the crowd, still bloodthirsty for revenge, takes it out on him. An unlikely rescue, just as the sky opens up to a torrential downpour of red rain, leads him to a compound in the very isolated Pennsylvanian countryside - Amish land.

This isn't just Simon's story. The entire continent, in fact all of the major continents on the globe are covered by red clouds and drenched by red rain. It doesn't look good and no one knows what's happening. Communication, satellites, air travel - so much is affected by this weather event and there is a belief that this might be the beginning of an Armageddon.

We don't know all the details or the outcome because author Jay J. Falconer leaves the reader hanging at the end of Redfall: Fight for Survival (American Prepper Series Book 1). A battle in Amish country leaves behind a blood bath that suggests more will follow. And the red rain continues to cover the earth. There is a strong plot line here and good characterization. In fact, the plot seems to end on the climax. However, this is a great end-of-the-world page turner/thriller which will hopefully meet some resolution in the second book in the series.

Redfall: Fight for Survival by Jay Falconer is an unnerving thriller whose gruesome opening scene sets the tone and the pace for what Former Special Ops and survivalist Simon Redfall must face as the world descends into chaos with the onset of a strange red rain. Battling his own demons and recovering from the trauma and drama of his wife's death, he finds himself at the mercy of a small band of preppers who rescue him from an angry mob seeking further recompense for his wife’s actions. Finding the opportunity to put his specials skills to use with his rescuers and moving forward from his past, Redfall and his new companions learn that the eerie blood-like rain falling on every major landmass is not just a freak phenomena but a potentially engineered one with sinister motives.

Everyone likes a good conspiracy theory but Jay takes it to the next level with his red rain, advanced technology theories, daunting weather phenomenon, and apocalyptic obstacles that these characters must overcome. This is the first book in the series and it’s not for the faint of heart. There is a lot of stage setting and character introductions for such a complex plot, which is necessary, but there is less story development. However, I think you’ll find that it whets your appetite, as it did mine, to know more about Redfall, the red rain, and the preppers that resist the conspiracy which threatens to wipe them all out ... to be revealed in book 2.

Redfall: Fight for Survival (American Prepper Series Book 1) by Jay J. Falconer is a dystopian fiction story about the collapse of society. Simon Redfall arrives in Washington, D.C. to witness the execution of his wife. It is society’s first pay-per-view execution. At the same time, a red storm cloud appears and drops acid rain across the country. The frightening new weather phenomenon sends the country back into the dark ages — no travel, no cell phones or communication, no electric or power grid. With the world plunging into chaos around him, Simon uses his former special ops training to survive. He partners with a group of similar survivalists and tries to determine the meaning of this weather phenomenon, because when the red rain stops falling, Simon realizes that the worst is still to come. After the last of the rain falls, it will be too late for Simon and his new friends to stop what is coming next.

Redfall: Fight for Survival is an action story that never lets up the intensity. It is a constant flow of action followed by the characters' reactions and both escalate as the story progresses. Falconer pulls you right into the story with his gritty and strong characters. The characters are well-rounded, excellently written, and have an authentic feel that shows the level of advancement Falconer has in his craft. There’s just enough mystery within the story to keep the action moving in the right direction, and plenty of adrenaline and speed!

Redfall: Fight for Survival (American Prepper Series Book 1) by Jay J. Falconer is a dystopian tale high on action, mystery, and intrigue. Simon Redfall is a former Special Ops operative. His wife is being executed in the first ever pay per view execution because she is accused of the mass murder of innocent people. And Simon, who is a survivalist, is being hunted by angry mobs and the government. But when a strange red rain starts falling from the sky, Simon might be more of an asset than a liability. Travel is halted and communications are impossible as the rain knocks out grid after grid. When Simon connects with a group of similarly minded survivalists, he starts to get some answers. But what he discovers is almost as impossible to comprehend. The red rain is only the beginning, and what comes next is far, far worse than anyone imagined.

Redfall: Fight for Survival is a really well-written story that crosses so many genres that it is sure to please everyone! It is so much more than a sci fi story. It has mystery and suspense, action and sorrow. There are corrupt governments, secrets, lies, death, fights, and of course, action! Once this story starts it never stops, which is a great way to read a story like this. Falconer is incredibly talented at writing this world and his characters. I felt like they were real people, struggling with real issues, and I was so immersed in the world that I worried for these characters like they were my own friends.
