In Renegade by Michael J. Farlow, Paul Aubert, a translator at the Palais des Nations, is secretly assigned to a mission by China to assassinate key players in space and military politics. He prepares with a sniper rifle and sets his targets. Paul’s task takes him to multiple locations, including São Paulo, Dnipro, and India, where he executes several assassination attempts, such as eliminating a guard at a space facility in Brazil and attempting to kill Silva in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Nick Hall, aboard the Argos, investigates the attempted assassination of his father, Commander Van Childs, which he believes is linked to Paul. Nick tracks Paul’s movements across the globe, eventually discovering his role in a larger plot involving China and Iran’s military plans. Paul, now on the run after failing his mission in Dnipro, fights to evade capture while Nick closes in on him.

Renegade: Records of the Argos, Book 4 by Michael J. Farlow delivers a heart-thumping story that comfortably mixes fleshed-out character arcs and some truly multi-dimensional interstellar conflict. While Nick and Paul are the main characters and primary points of view, I really liked the resourceful AI Wizzy and the unfolding events around Federation President Lindgren. Farlow’s writing shines with its cinematic descriptions and tight pacing, and, even though this is the fourth book in the saga, it does read perfectly well as a standalone. However, I would recommend starting with book one, not just because it enhances a reader's connection to the world-building and backstory, but also because the series is good enough to deserve that degree of immersion. With a string of plots and a uniquely imagined universe, this installment cements Farlow's reputation as a master of intelligent, character-driven sci-fi. A must-read for fans of the genre.

Renegade: Records of the Argos, Book 4 by Michael J. Farlow explores the conflict between the Earth Federation and the China-Iran coalition, trying to master control of the International Space Station and challenge the Federation's authority. After Nick discovered China and Iran's plan to attack, he sent a drone to infiltrate an Iranian base and find out more details concerning the surprise assault plan being set up against the Federation. It was discovered that there was a plan against the Federation and the ISS on which Nick and his crew had to get ready for defense. As the battle unfolded, Nick, who is in charge of the ship Argos, commands three task groups against the Chinese fleet using a hit-and-run tactic. Despite his efforts to negotiate a ceasefire with the Chinese admiral, Zheng, the fate of the Federation remains uncertain as the conflicts continue.

I loved the richness of the world-building in this book. Michael J. Farlow did such a great job in describing the post-Arkon War setting, with the degradation of Earth's infrastructure and the tussle for power. Nick Hall is a great protagonist; flawed and principled, carrying a heavy responsibility. The action scenes were thrilling, especially the intense cat-and-mouse game between Nick's forces and the Chinese/Iranian fleets. I enjoyed reading the history and politics of the Earth Federation and how it came to be the Consortium of Planets. It was properly fleshed out and I would love to read more. I recommend Renegade to readers who enjoy action-packed narratives with thrilling battles and advanced technology, as well as themes of responsibility and leadership.

Renegade by Michael J. Farlow offers readers a compelling vision of a future where technological stagnation has left humanity vulnerable to emerging threats. The story follows Nick Hall, a protagonist who must defy direct orders to uncover the identity of an assassin and prevent power-hungry factions from seizing control. As part of the Records of the Argos series, this installment builds upon the established world while introducing fresh challenges and deeper philosophical questions about society's relationship with technology. Farlow's masterful blend of action sequences, political intrigue, and thoughtful commentary on human complacency creates a story that engages both the mind and the heart.

Author Michael J. Farlow's complex narrative is brimming with tension from start to finish, and the vibrant action sequences crackle with energy while serving the larger plot in a relevant and exciting way. I was absorbed by the political machinations that were naturally explained through dialogue rather than huge chunks of heavy prose. The exploration of humanity's dependence on technology raises important questions about progress and stagnation without becoming preachy or overtaking the action. The characters inhabit morally gray areas that accurately and realistically reflect the complexity of their world, making their choices more impactful and meaningful. This makes it all the more interesting to get to know Nick and those around him on a deeper level. The interweaving of personal, political, and larger existential stakes creates a rich tapestry that keeps readers invested. The world-building expands naturally from previous installments while remaining accessible to new readers as a self-contained story. The pacing also balances brilliant action sequences with moments of reflection that allow the deeper themes to sink in. Overall, Renegade is an excellent addition to the series that will satisfy both science fiction fans and readers who appreciate thoughtful speculation about humanity's future. I would certainly recommend it.

In Renegade by Michael J. Farlow, the intergalactic adventures of young Nick Hall, the Captain of the Argos, and his loyal crew unfold. Upon their return to the Guardian Force Headquarters, Nick is greeted by a somber Commodore Walters. The Commodore informs Nick that an assassination attempt was made on Nick's father's life during a high-profile speech at the Earth Federation Headquarters in Geneva. Nick is cautioned by the Commodore not to get involved in the investigation. Driven by revenge, however, Nick dismisses the Commodore's warnings and goes to Earth in search of the assassin. He discovers Earth has fallen prey to social passivity due to the advanced technological systems gifted to them by the Galatic Host. With the planet's defenses lowered, dangerous forces seek to take control of Earth. Nick and his small crew are Earth's chief defense coalition. How will they fare against these formidable forces?

Renegade is a captivating space opera that pulls readers into an action-packed adventure throughout the far reaches of space. What I enjoyed most about this gripping sci-fi tale is that it never fails to entertain the reader, even with its large cast of engaging characters. As Nick and his team confront high-stakes situations, their voyage takes them on a thrilling journey filled with tension, suspense, and drama. Michael J. Farlow does a remarkable job of molding his characters into compelling and multifaceted individuals. I felt like I was part of the Argos crew, and I experienced their character development every step of the way. Of all the characters depicted, Wizzy--the ship's quirky and highly sarcastic AI system--is the one that held my attention the most. I enjoyed every moment of his witty back-and-forths with Nick. With fascinating characters and an intriguing storyline, this sci-fi novel promises to be an unforgettable read.

Renegade by Michael J. Farlow is a thrilling drama set in a futuristic world where humanity is overly dependent on advanced technology. The world is experiencing the aftermath of the Arkon war, the realization that Earth is not the only planet occupied by an intelligent race, and the formation of the Earth Federation. One of the founding members of the Federation survives an assassination attempt, and his son, Nick Hall, goes against the orders of the Consortium and Guardian Force, embarking on a mission to bring justice to those responsible for the attack. He joins forces with Wizzy, an AI companion with advanced analytical abilities and a charming personality. Meanwhile, Paul, the assassin responsible for the attack, uncovers a conspiracy that could lead to global catastrophe. He decides to switch sides to expose the truth, aligning himself with Nick, who is also joined by Colonel Andria Krammer of the Earth Federation.

Renegade is the fourth book in the Records of the Argos series by Michael J. Farlow. It takes readers on a new mission to Earth and contains a lot of action and tactical elements. The political conspiracies and tension are creative and resonant in today's world. Countries seeking power and military dominance mirror real-world geopolitical issues, making the narrative both engaging and thought-provoking. The story is suspenseful and intense as Nick and his team have to face massive force and use smart tactics to stop the threat. Though Wizzy is an AI, I found it to be my favorite character due to its wit and ability to provide crucial insights and strategies. Additionally, the book offers commentary on the dangers of over-reliance on advanced technology, highlighting the potential consequences in a rapidly evolving society. Overall, Renegade is an exciting read and a great addition to this series. I recommend it to anyone who loves action-packed futuristic science-fiction tales.
