Restart: Dawn of Shadows by Drew Samuelsen is both fast-paced and thought-provoking. The world is nothing like it used to be, and Uly knows it. Earth is broken, danger is everywhere, and survival often depends on luck. Stuck in space with Xavier and Max, he misses home but knows that going back won't be easy. Their mission? To stop Queen Eve, an immense force who has transformed the world, possibly even beyond repair. As the secrets unfold slowly, friendship and trust go hand in hand with more challenges to face. From decoding strange messages to surviving dangerous situations, Uly is pulled into a conflict where survival goes beyond merely staying alive; it's about preserving the essence of being human. Can they conquer an enemy that has already changed the rules of the game?
Restart: Dawn of Shadows by Drew Samuelsen hooks you right from the start with its raw, first-person narration. Uly's voice is refreshingly honest and filled with humor, doubt, and resilience. The writing style is sharp and immersive, and the smooth chapter transitions maintain the momentum in a steady flow that invites you further into the narrative. The intensity is palpable. The other interesting aspect is the weaving of history and philosophy through clever references. The theme of identity is also strong, particularly with Queen Eve. The characters and their interactions, especially between Uly and Xavier, bring humor and heart into the mix. The chapter titles also deserve mention; they're meaningful and tie perfectly into what is in the chapters. Uly's journey is as intense as the battles, and his gratitude for returning to Earth reminds us how much has been lost and what's worth fighting for. This novel isn't just about survival—it's about fighting for something bigger; to be human. If you love sci-fi, this is a must-read.
