In Retirement Runway by Joseph A. Clark, CFP, Grant has just graduated from high school, and he is very concerned about his future. Luckily, he has his grandfather to advise him. His grandfather tells him about the five critical elements of retirement planning. The first element focuses on life after work, while the second element is on tax planning. It involves choosing the best plan that will give you the best returns while lowering your overall tax bill over the long haul. To make informed decisions on such matters, one needs to get a financial advisor with a fiduciary focus. Element three focuses on investments. Investments enable one to have as much freedom and security after retirement as possible. It is important to note that sometimes investments do not go as planned, but risks should be minimized as much as possible, as discussed in element four. Element five covers the issue of legacy and looking into posterity.

Books on financial matters can be hard to read, but not Retirement Runway: A Story about Family and Legacy by Joseph A. Clark, CFP. The author uses a unique approach that keeps the reader engaged and eager to discover what happens next as the wonderful conversations between Bill and Grant unfold. I loved the emphasis on getting quality advice from experts and people with experience, which helps minimize mistakes. Clark also gives relevant examples, which make the work very effective in passing on the intended message. The reader will also appreciate the reference to other materials, which can form a basis for further reading. This was a very informative read, and I look forward to reading more by Clark.
