Jennifer Carole Lewis' book, Revelations, is the first in the Lalassu series. Welcome to the world of the Lalassu, where everything imaginable actually exists. In this world, those with power are living on the fringes of society, keeping their true identities a secret. Meet Michael Brooks who has the ability to feel everyone's feelings and, when he touches you, discover your most hidden secrets. Michael has grown up hiding his gift and reading comics, hoping one day that there would be others like him. He works as a developmental therapist with young children, trying to make their lives better. One day, one of his charges is kidnapped and he vows to get her back. In his investigation, he meets Dani Harris, a woman with secrets of her own who knows a thing or two about secret gifts. But secrets don't stay hidden for long. Soon a sinister plot against those in the Lalassu community is discovered and it is a race against time to stop those who want to capture the Lalassu or they won't have a future to look forward to.

Jennifer Carole Lewis' Revelations starts off with an interesting cast of characters that leaves the readers wanting to know more. Their introductions seem short, but quickly grab the reader's attention and it's not too long before you're completely absorbed in the book. As you read more, you are further pulled in by the romance brewing between the main characters, and a blatant dislike for anyone who tries to separate them, or for their own foolish decisions if it messes with the couple being together. This book offers readers insight to those who may seem to be struggling to fit into society, and things that appear to be normal are not always what they seem. Michael's work as a developmental therapist gives us a clue to some of the real struggles children face, and Lewis has done a remarkable job incorporating it into her novel. Two thumbs up for Lewis in creating a world in which the attention given to those who are different is shown to be exactly the same as everyone who ever needed to work to support their family. In fact their uniqueness is what makes them desirable characters to get to know and it is what should be celebrated in everyday life. I recommend this book to those who love sci-fi, fantasy and some romance.
